Walk in Faith! – Part 1

“…keep the way of the Lord…do righteousness and justice…” – Genesis 18:19 (NKJV)

In Genesis 18:19 (NKJV), the Lord spoke profound words of Abraham: “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” This single verse summarises God’s relationship with Abraham and His expectations of him as a leader.

It is evident that God has shown His confidence in Abraham’s character and his ability to parent well. Abraham is not just seen as a good servant leader but as someone who demonstrates faith through his actions and how he leads his household. Moreover, he is seen as someone who personifies and teaches the principles of righteousness. Question: How does God see you, Dad?

As a parent and leader in your household, you are called to follow in Abraham’s footsteps. He epitomised the significance of leadership and commanded his children and his household to walk in the ways of the Lord. Today, values are often challenged, making it paramount for men to lead and instill God’s values within their families. When God spoke about doing righteousness and justice, it means that we are called to mirror loyalty to God’s commandments, embodying the very name of God’s character and what is expected from us as His people.

Abraham was able to lead his family because of his solid commitment to God’s commandments. It is vital to note that the spiritual atmosphere in any home is substantially influenced by the dedication to uphold God’s Word. This will require the men (as the leaders) to actively read Scriptures, worship, and create a culture of prayer as faith is built within the family. Today, many women are taking up this baton and doing it immaculately. But, just like Abraham’s dedication to God’s purposes, men are the ones called to teach and train their children the importance of God’s laws.

Rise and walk in truth and faith today, fathers. Keep the way of the Lord; lead your family!
